Duration: 35 minutes

Family Care Radio asked politicians from each of the political parties currently represented in Parliament what they would do for carers if they were part of the next government.  They were all asked the same questions, and all parties made time for Family Care Radio during an especially busy time in Parliament, except for the Maori Party and the Progressive Party.  The latter parties have provided their information in text form; review the comments of all eight parties at www.carers.net.nz  Meanwhile, listen to their answers and/or link to the extended interviews below:

Iain Gordon and the theme music for Family Care Radio

Iain Gordon, accomplished musician, composer and producer and the keyboard player for Fat Freddy's Drop is the creative force behind the theme music for Family Care Radio.  Iain is also a carer and has supported his disabled sisters, Jane and Irini, throughout their lives. In this interview he talks to Margie Wheeler about what inspired him to compose the music, which he sees as something that will evolve as the radio show develops.  Listen to the interview as part of this month's show and the extended interview, where you can download a taste of the music.

The kitchen can be the most dangerous room in the house.  There are plenty of hazards - from a sharp knife left out on the bench to a loved pet getting under your feet.  Jessica MacDonald outlines ways you can manage hazards in the kitchen and gives practical tips to help the family member or person you are supporting be as independent as possible.  For more information visit ACC's Home Safety website.

Meditation - Peace

Duration: 5 minutes

Listen to another five minute meditation with Anna Filliol.  This one is called Peace and is designed to take you out of your thoughts and feelings, giving you a break from the bustle of everyday life.  Make yourself a cup of tea, put your feet up, and relax.  You deserve it!
 

Family Care Radio Next Month

In October 2008 we bring you the intimate memories of two well known and loved New Zealand 'Dames' - broadcaster Dame Kate Harcourt, and writer Dame Fiona Kidman.  Both women have cared for ageing parents, and look back on their experiences juggling work, family life, and caring.
